We’re Magandjin/Brisbane’s first community-owned food hub, bringing together the people, facilities and ideas to create a fair, local, and resilient food system.

If you're a farmer, food entrepreneur, activist, or community builder, this is the place to sow your ideas and cultivate impact.

Good food, big ideas, a better future

What’s a food hub?

Food hubs are pivotal connectors in a robust local food system. We provide spaces, services and knowledge to farmers, businesses, institutions and communities to enable a fairer, more sustainable way of sourcing and distributing food.

By shortening and enriching value chains, prioritizing ethical sourcing, and strengthening regional economies, food hubs ensure fresh, local, and ethically produced food reaches the people who need it most - while ensuring farmers are supported (and paid) properly, and reducing waste.

How we help

Facilities & resources

No matter what kind of change you’re making - whether it’s feeding your neighbors, advocating for social issues, or expanding an ethical food business - we provide the essential spaces and resources to bring your ideas to life:

  • Coworking & collaboration spaces: A hub for food system innovators, activists, and small businesses to connect and create.

  • Event & gathering spaces: A stage for knowledge-sharing, movement-building and celebrating food, culture, and community.

  • Commercial kitchen and warehousing: A launchpad for food entrepreneurs to scale their ideas while prioritizing local, ethical, and sustainable sourcing.

Networks & support

We’re more than our walls. Owned and brought to life by more than 500 passionate Careholders, relationships and collaboration are in Food Connect Shed’s DNA. Whether you’re here for a day or make us your home, you become part of our ever-expanding network of good people doing great things. Learn from your peers, connect with aligned suppliers, share resources, get introduced to movers and shakers, and work together to make tangible change.

Our history

Food Connect Shed builds on the heart and shoulders of Brisbane’s social enterprise and farm-to-plate pioneers, Food Connect, and its guiding Food Connect Foundation. To ensure the longevity and resilience of the Shed and the systems change we’re creating, we needed security. So in 2018, in an Australian-first we raised over $2 million in an equity crowdfunding campaign to buy our Warehouse on Textile Cres, Salisbury.

Our facilities are now owned by over 500 committed investors who we call Careholders - creating a permanent home for our food hub, and a secure base for the many businesses and changemakers who’ve called us home over the years.

Since then we’ve weathered storms, a pandemic, enabled continued food supply to our community when mainstream channels were cut off (showing the importance of agile value chains), hosted countless events and more.
